Healthy Green Goddess Smoothie Recipe

Healthy Green Goddess Smoothie Recipe

Quick trivia: what is the most famous green smoothie in America?

That darn McDonald’s Shamrock Shake. Ick.

Everyone goes crazy for it.

But I just don’t get it.

My Green Goddess Smoothie is SO much better – healthier AND tastier.

Plus, a small real Shamrock Shake is packed with 420 calories and a bunch of unhealthy crap.

Don’t even get me started on the Large, which has 800 calories…or the fact that it contains 70% of your daily value of saturated fat!

Look, I’m not on a diet. I definitely eat unhealthy things sometimes. But this is a kind of excessive.

Also, I am a runner. Runners want to eat nutritious food most of the time (unless it’s wine…then I make an exception…).

So I’d like to share my alternative to the McDonald-version…this is a healthy Green Goddess Smoothie recipe you can drink in the morning to start your day off right!

First, get your blender and all the ingredients ready.

For a blender, I use the NutriBullet and absolutely love it, but any blender will do just fine.

First, put 1/2 cup of spinach (rinsed) into the NutriBullet cup.

I freeze my spinach so it lasts longer and has good texture in the smoothie.

Next, put 1/2 cup of frozen mangoes in.

Again, you can cut and freeze fresh mango if you want, but I just buy pre-cut frozen packages (because mangoes are a pain to cut).

Now add 1 scoop of Vital Whey vanilla protein powder.

I use Vital Whey Natural Vanilla because it’s delicious (and only 80 calories per scoop) – and it’s sourced from pasture-raised, grass-fed cows.

Last, add in 1/2 cup each of coconut water and almond milk (or your milk of choice).

Coconut water provides tons of potassium and electrolytes. Perfect ingredient for runners!

Now blend, and enjoy!

Make sure to enjoy this smoothie as quickly as possible – because of the frozen ingredients, you want to maintain the frozen texture and not let this smoothie get warm.

There are tons of variations of this Healthy Shamrock Shake recipe. Experiment to find your favorite flavor combo!

Try adding one or more alternative ingredient options below:

  • Fresh mint
  • Pineapple
  • Banana
  • Turmeric
  • Ginger
  • Apple (green apple!)

I’m working on my food photographing skills, but I promise you, this smoothie is delicious!

Runners will feel good whipping up this Healthy Green Goddess Smoothie recipe before or after a run to fuel your body with tons of healthy carbs and protein!
